| Kama | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
When Edward, recently dumped by his partner of 25 years, meets an alluring man at a local bar, he learns that every love can come with a high price. Originally published in 2006 in issue 20 of Velvet Mafia: Dangerous Queer Fiction. Warnings: explicit m/m sex, intergenerational sex, adult themes. Link opens the Velvet Mafia: Dangerous Queer Fiction website in a new window. "Lovely, capturing of the mood of loss and despair of the middle-aged lover having to engage in the dating scene again, knowing he’s well past the age of attraction. And Kama is deceptively lovely too, sliding under Edward’s hardened shell like a stiletto." "Highly recommended. Not recommended for the die-hard romantic, but if you like the thrill of something different – this unique story will knock you down *hard* on your backside."

| The Fifties | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A love story that was inspired by the cinematic melodramas of Douglas Sirk and is a snapshot of the very last moments of a secret relationship. First published in 2006 in issue 9 of Chick Flicks. Warnings: Adult themes. "I feel an uncomfortable vulnerability, and would like to dismiss this story as speculative fiction, but there’s an undeniable truth here that cannot be ignored. There just may come a day when this fiction becomes a reality. Needless to say it’s eye-opening."

| The Perfect Date | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
One of the first stories I wrote and my first venture into horrotica, this very bent love story was first published in 2006 in issue 3 of Twisted Tongue. Warnings: Explicit m/f sex, adult themes. "The author has truly created a perfectly admirable if slightly skewed character that I couldn’t help but feel proud of. Some may cringe with the ending, but the simple truth is Taylor Joseph is a survivor."

| Toe Tag | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Originally commissioned for a foot fetish anthology, this piece proved far too extreme for that market, but Scared Named Magazine picked it up for issue 3, and Fresh Off the Vine graciously reprinted it in 2006. Warnings: Explicit m/m non-consensual sex, violence and drug use. "While raising serious questions about the effects of nursery rhymes on the young, impressionable mind, the story evokes a certain amount of sympathy for a man who was just trying to recapture that perfect moment of a first time. "

| Dwellings | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This piece first appeared in the excellent Outsider Ink webzine in 2002, and is the first examination of themes that run through much of my subsequent work. Warnings: Rape, violence, gore. Link opens the Outsider Ink website in a new window. “Dwellings,” is deeply complex and powerfully symbolic. Bens' gracefully crafted words create a beautiful rendering of a small town, beguiling us with the illusions of quaint town life and antiquated charm....This is a very disturbing story, brutally graphic and painful with its themes of betrayal and bitterness.

| First Kiss | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The second piece of fiction I ever sold, First Kiss remains one of my favorite stories, melancholic and sweet. Of course there is a twist. Originally published in Outsider Ink webzine in 2001. Warnings: Violence, adult themes. Link opens the Outsider Ink website in a new window. "The story's themes of rejection, loneliness and isolation are revealed through the eyes of an impressionable innocent, his narrative powerful and heartbreaking..."

| For the Love of God | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This story is, at its heart, a love story between three men and was my very first sale. Originally published by the U.K. magazine The Egg Box in 2001, it was subsequently republished in 2006 by Bleeding Quill Magazine. The religious themes of this story are ones that will subsequently become prominent in my long-form work. Warnings: Adult themes, m/m romance, gore |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A piece of unsold fiction and you'll understand why once you read it. It's a riff on an old urban legend from where I grew up, though I have set the piece in a fictional town named Benison's Pass, a town which recurs in much of my writing. Though it isn't my finest work, I still kinda like it as it represents my one and only forray into anything remotely close to humor. Warnings: Adult themes, icky het romance, gore "...this is a tale that's sure to induce a few gastric anomalies and make you think twice about dietary choices."
